Three SEO Myths

When it comes to Search Engine Optimization There are almost as many myths and misinformation about SEO as proven techniques that help improve your ranking. What makes it even more complicated is that many of the myths can not be confirmed or denied, simply because the algorithms of search engines are kept very secret and we do not know all the factors taken into account when tracking a site. After all, uncertainty about the algorithms actually helps the rapid growth of myths, rumors and speculation.

Occasionally, a new SEO myth appears when discussing either a forum or is posted on a blog, but there are some myths that are already so widespread  in the “SEO-knowledge” of many people that the Most of them believed to be truth. Here are some myths that are not as widely discussed.

Nofollow backlinks with good for nothing

The nofollow tag was introduced by Google in 2005 as an attempt to reduce spam links, clearly indicating that GoogleBot will not follow the links with that tag, or transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links . In short, the links have the nofollow attribute will not help get your site ranked, which makes these links Paresce useless and unimportant in the eyes of many.

However, since the nofollow tag was introduced many things have changed, and the fact that many sites with authority to add the nofollow allocation for each of their outgoing links (eg, Wikipedia, YouTube and Digg).

Google only differentiate no follow links, despite the nofollow links may not be considered as a rating factor.

A search engine like Yahoo! do not care if the link is labeled “nofollow” or not. In addition, nofollow links are not useless is the simple fact that these links still refer to your site visitors in real, and it could become regular readers or even customers. The importance of an article which was published in a nofollow site like Facebook or Digg can not be underestimated, as many other sites will start linking to your site as the original source of information.

In conclusion, with nofollow backlinks can benefit your website, although it can not influence the search engine rankings .

Sites get ranked according to PageRank

The PageRank of a domain is negligible. What matters is not the PageRank of the site, but how well indexed in search engines. PageRank is overrated figure who has lost importance in recent years, when the search algorithms became more advanced and added many factors more complex classification as domain authority and link popularity of specific pages that influence the ranking of a site.

The proof of this theory can be found by doing some searching on Google you will see many results with the lower PageRank than pages with high PageRank sites quite often. Another fact about PageRank to be mentioned is that the “official PageRank” can be seen in the toolbar(or pagerank calculator) is not the real PageRank that Google uses in its algorithms. The pagerank is just updated 3-4 times a year, ie, according to Google it is just one of over 200 things that can affect how your site is crawled, indexed and classified.

In conclusion, the PageRank of a site is only a sign, among many others. The PageRank of a site which is displayed in the toolbar is not exactly the only algorithm used by Google.

No linking to other sites! it Lowers the PR!

Many web site owners try to reduce link ups  to a minimum or even slight link to other sites around, fear of reducing its own PageRank. In fact, links to other sites absolutely do not diminish the PageRank, and if you do it the right way to benefit your own classification.

The attempt to capture all the PageRank by not having outbound links is quite inefficient, as it could reduce the user experience and not be natural to Google. Whenever you create content for a site, try to enter the perspective of your visitors who are looking for specific information and includes links to external sources, whenever you think that a visitor will benefit from it. This kind of thinking outside the box approach will help you see your site from the point of view of a person who is seeking as much information about a topic as possible and you help the visitors.

In conclusion we can say that linking to external sites does not ascend into heaven your search engine rankings, but will have some positive effects if it is linked to quality and relevant sites. The only sites that should not be linked to spam are banned or malicious sites. It is also important to ensure not linking to a dozen sites within a completely independent article.

Each myth is based on personal opinions and this is my attempt to expose the myths above as per my SEO Knowledge. No person shall place all the myths in search engine optimization with 100% accuracy, simply because there is no precise knowledge about the way in which search engines algorithms operate on these days and the great importance that different rating factors are renewed very often.
