The Apple iPad may have become a top of mind in the tablet computer selection. Over the years, Apple seemed unbeatable in the industry. However, since Microsoft’s announcement of its release of Surface, its very own version of tablet, Apple may not need to wait until 2015 for Android to cope.
The Microsoft Surface has a lot of great promises that shakes the ground for the rather great confidence in Apple’s latest release, the iPad HD. Microsoft announces not just one but two tablets and both carry the name Surface. There are two versions of the Surface: a lower priced and a more sophisticated model. The lower model is ARM powered and built with Windows RT. On the other hand, the high priced one is built with an Intel Ivy Bridge chip. It is also running in a Windows 8 Professional.
What The Surface Has To Offer
The iPad may still lead in the weight category. The lower bracket Surface that will be marketed to the lower income individuals is measured at 9.3mm thickness and weighed at 676g which is a little heavier than the iPad HD. Moreover, the more sophisticated model of Surface is rather chunky at 13.5 mm. It also weights 903 g making it 240 grams more heavy weight than the new iPad.
However, weight is immaterial to what the Microsoft Surface has to offer. Its best advantage actually lies in that it carries the latest version of Windows operating system which is the Windows 8. It is at par with its iOS and Android or similar tablet counterparts as Microsoft has optimized Windows 8 to be on a touch screen basis.
Microsoft Surface also boasts of its massive storage as the Windows RT version is made available in 32 to 64GB. The higher version however, has a capacity of as much as 128GB of storage. It makes the tablet apt for working professionals and business entrepreneurs. Microsoft has already confirmed Surface’s WiFi and Bluetooth support. As far as other connectivity options are concerned, nothing else has been announced so far.
An Extra Offer
Microsoft is well aware that if the Surface will make a good competition for the iPad, the company has to offer something extra. And one of the top things that the iPad is known for is the Smart Cover. And the Microsoft case provides a great smart promise. It actually offers something extra that the iPad’s Smart Cover does not have. The Surface cover can be fold back and make up a thin keyboard. The Surface tablet touch cover is also made available in a variety of colors.
This and more certainly makes the Microsoft Surface tablet a force to look out for and something that the makers of tablet computers have to watch out for.
